Job Description :

Plans and conducts activities providing quality engineering leadership and support for quality in production programs company-wide. Plays an active role in review and incorporation of inspection methods and plans. Conducts statistical analyses of product and process nonconformances and quality improvements through team action while serving as the focal point for technical quality assurance activities throughout the manufacturing facility. Participates as an AS9100/NQA-1 quality system lead auditor, including quality system improvements and acts as a liaison to various governmental customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Evaluates Customer product/process quality requirements and specifications during contract review for consideration in quality planning and feedback to Management on technical needs and/or issues.

§ Performs quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including Supplier quality manuals and company quality records.

§ Participates in reviewing proposed engineering changes to identify and implement any required changes to the quality systems or quality plan.

2. Analyzes, develops and documents needed control plans and FMEAs for new or changed products/production processes in aerospace/nuclear programs, thus assuring meeting Customer requirements while reducing risk to the business.

§ Through review of engineering drawings and specifications, develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.

§ Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of the assigned product or assembly.

§ Identifies, records and tracks Customer complaints and escapements to assure prompt information is available for corrections needed and control plans are amended where indicated.

3. Specifies data collection, performs statistical/capability analyses, devises sampling plans for inspections and conceives meaningful charts and displays of data for use in quality/lean manufacturing continuous improvements throughout the company.

§ Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluation, and reporting quality and reliability data.

§ Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.

§ Performs statistical capability analyses as needed to evaluate business risks and determine expected quality performance to Customer requirements.

§ Conducts statistical analysis of nonconformance and continuous improvement data for the identification of trends. Documents data obtained during all quality activities consistent with company policies and procedures.

§ Evaluates Supplier performance and prepare analyses and reports for Management Review.

4. Takes a leadership role in continuous improvement activities throughout the company’s operations.

§ Conducts analysis of nonconformance root cause and implementation of effective corrective actions through team action.

§ Resolves CMM/measuring device issues between QA and manufacturing applications to assure needed measurement integrity.

§ Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.

§ Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality activities.

§ Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.

5. Participates in quality audits and quality system improvement projects to better assure the viability of the AS9100/NQA-1 quality systems for the company.

§ Performs product and procedure audits in support of the internal and Supplier external audit programs.

§ Assists the Quality Assurance Manager in the continuous review of the company quality system for new or revised procedures/ work instructions and the identification of employee training needs.

§ Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards, maintaining the QA library of needed documents.

§ Reviews each purchase order for production materials and services and defines the specific quality requirements prior to approval.

Education / Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or science discipline required. Quality assurance or quality engineering experience of 5 - 7 years with a minimum of 3 years in an aerospace as well as specific knowledge of CMM measurements for part evaluations and acceptance is required. An ASQ Certified Quality Engineer is clearly preferred. Some experience with titanium is a plus. Must be AS9100 certified, NQA-1, root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies and experience with standard quality tools such as Advanced Product Planning, Six Sigma, DOE, SPC, control plan and lean manufacturing methodologies. Experience / training in AS9100/1SO 9001 or NQA-1 as a lead auditor is required. Ideal candidate must have “hands-on” inspection experience. Government experience preferred.
